The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to develop a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to begin in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.
Launch products are set to feature a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and several premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was released in NYC, sending the nation into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups rise, turning the urban landscape into a warzone. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. That’s where the players enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been underway for approximately three years, and it is reportedly complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider audience, specifically in the United States. Production will start right after the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules confirms it employs d10s exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic style. Agents use abilities to assemble a handful of dice, typically from one to five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, players select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a perfect 10 grants additional bonuses, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Engagements Emphasize Positioning and Awareness
Battles prioritize positioning and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic is designed to reward coordination and clever tactics over simple statistics.
A Thematic Health Mechanic
The way health is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
- They may still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state seen in many shooter games.
- Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, risking persistent effects like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.
An Introductory Scenario
A free introductory rulebook is promised in the near future. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players spearhead the hunt for a missing medical team and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup are expected to be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
