'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Desperately Seek Answers After Alpine Inferno
The loved ones of teens missing after a deadly inferno at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an agonising wait for confirmed information and requesting information about their children publicly.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified video show the ceiling igniting as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and injured another scores more. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to identify the other six.
In the meantime, loved ones have been posting on the internet to appeal for clues about their friends who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.
The who lives of a town near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She added that some of his peers had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they endured hell."
The Italian government has indicated that six of its young people have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend said they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers commented, "I've always been struck by his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. He would frequently offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has published an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
