Tributes Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt prepared to share openly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the production, remarking that he doesn't recollect "any day without mirth".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked seamlessly with the cast, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to block the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order issued a security hold on the cases to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a record citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
Following the tragedy, public personalities offered divergent responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing provocative statements that were broadly criticized by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the critics last week. Talking on his show, Rogan labeled the statements as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an aide could have stepped in when the decision to weigh in on the passing was made.
